Master 2 - tracks

  • Multi-scale Approaches for Materials and Structures (AMMS)

Through the various courses offered in this track (M2), we wish to train students in the mechanical modeling of materials and structures by integrating the properties of their various constituents and information on their arrangement at different scales of space. The applications of the different analysis approaches presented in all the courses concern the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and more broadly Industry. The focus is on cementitious materials, geomaterials (soils, rocks) and multi-layered structures (fiber-resin, glued laminated wood, steel-elastomer). This training through research fully meets the requirements of a candidacy for a PhD in Mechanics and Structures, but it also constitutes ́a complement of training on current research topics likely to interest future engineers.

  • Durability of Materials and Structures (DMS)

The Durability of Materials and Structures program aims to train high-level scientific staff who are able to deal with the durability of future installations and to identify the condition of existing installations in order to determine their residual life and to decide on possible reinforcements or to optimize a maintenance policy. The aspects taking into account the hazard and analysis of the possible consequences of an accident will be particularly studied. The applications will concern engineering structures (bridges, tunnels, roads, . . . ), structures for the production or storage of energy (dams, STEP, pressurized water nuclear reactors, offshore or onshore wind turbines, . . . ) and buildings. At the end of the training, students master the main models of aging of materials and structures, know how to implement an approach to identify the state of an old structure, know the main methods for taking into account the hazards of materials, loads or related to the ignorance of the precise state of a structure.  They know how to deduce the probability of an accident or the life span of a structure and how to rationally pose a problem of optimization of a reinforcement or maintenance policy.
